TABUK CITY, Kalinga — Tabuk City recorded the highest number of vehicular accident incidents responded to by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Kalinga during the third quarter of 2026, accounting for 118 of the province’s 127 recorded responses from July to September.

The figures were presented by the BFP-Kalinga Provincial Headquarters during the 3rd Quarter Joint PPOC-PTF-ELCAC cum PADAC Public Safety Updates on September 30, 2026.

Based on the BFP data, Tabuk City recorded 118 vehicular accident responses, followed by Rizal with five and Pasil with four.

No vehicular accident responses were recorded by BFP fire stations in Balbalan, Lubuagan, Pinukpuk, Tanudan and Tinglayan during the period.

Overall, BFP responded to 127 vehicular accident incidents in the third quarter of 2026, up from 72 during the same period in 2025, representing a 76-percent increase.

Bulanao accounts for 63 cases

Within Tabuk City, the Bulanao Fire Sub-Station area of responsibility registered 98 of the 118 incidents.

The BFP breakdown showed that Bulanao Centro and Norte recorded 63 incidents, the highest among the identified areas in the city.

Other areas under the Bulanao Fire Sub-Station recorded 11 incidents each in Ipil-Mapaoay and Western Tabuk, eight in Nambaran-Ileb, and five in San Juan.

The Tabuk City Fire Station area of responsibility recorded 20 incidents, including seven in Laya East and West, six in Dagupan Centro, East and West, four in Magsaysay, two in Appas, and one in Cabaruan.

The BFP identified 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. as the period when most vehicular accidents occur, particularly in the Bulanao area.

Limited responders, vehicles pose challenge

The high number of incidents in Tabuk City also highlights challenges faced by emergency responders.

The BFP reported that insufficient ambulances, rescue vehicles and responders hinder rapid deployment during emergencies. These limitations can become particularly challenging when multiple emergencies occur at the same time or when responders need to reach accident sites quickly.

The concentration of accidents during the evening and early morning hours also underscores the need for motorists to exercise greater caution, particularly when road visibility may be reduced.

The BFP continues to provide emergency response and conduct community-based preparedness activities. Among its measures are First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) lectures, which aim to equip communities with life-saving skills and enable immediate assistance while waiting for trained responders to arrive.

The agency also urged motorists to observe speed limits, avoid distracted or impaired driving, use proper safety gear, and remain alert while traveling.

Motorists are particularly encouraged to exercise extra caution between 5 p.m. and 1 a.m., when BFP data show a concentration of vehicular accident responses, especially in the Bulanao area.

Drivers and riders are likewise advised to avoid speeding, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, use headlights properly, and avoid driving when tired or under the influence of alcohol or other substances.
