2 NPAs slain in Cagayan encounter; one of rebels killed is a student

Cagayan, Philippines – A number of lives have already been lost in the continuing battle between the military and the rebels in the country due to insurgency and ideology.

The latest casualty in an armed encounter in the Philippines are two rebels who were killed following a gunfight between the 502nd Infantry Brigade and suspected members of the Komiteng Rehiyon Cagayan Valley (KRCV) on Wednesday, September 11, in Peñablanca, Cagayan.

The clash happened when the government troops were alerted between 2:00 – 3:00 a.m. about the presence of KRCV in Sitio Pallay, Baliuag.

After receiving the information, the troops moved to the area and chanced upon around 17 suspected rebels. This resulted into a 20-minute firefight and the death of two KRCV members – a man and a woman.

The male cadaver was identified as Alyas ‘Jorly,’ a resident of Bural, Rizal, Cagayan. The female body, on the other hand, was identified as ‘Nieves’ who is a student of a university in Manila.

Apart from the two bodies, the authorities likewise recovered from the encounter site four firearms owned by the KRCV.
