22 underprivileged students in Tinglayan benefit from Temporary Employment Program

Tinglayan, Kalinga – Twenty-two students from various barangays in Tinglayan shall now have temporary jobs this summer to help them gain income they would utilize in their studies.

 

This is after they were chosen as recipients for this year’s Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) – a collaborative program between the Department of Labor and Employment and the local government unit.

 

On Monday, June 3, the students who are in summer vacation were oriented on their tasks as temporary employees of the local government of Tinglayan.

 

In said orientation, the recipients were told to work on cleaning the community and water sources, beautification of pathways utilizing recyclable materials as well as barangay health stations. These activities are in consonance with the Pumor-asan program of the LGU.


Following their 20-day work in the community, the students would receive wage amounting to P194,999. Each of them would receive P8,863 since their daily wage is P443.18.

 

Larae Lactao, the designated information officer said that the program was funded by DOLE-CAR, with a counterpart fund from the LGU amounting to P100,000.

 

The students, who started their work following the orientation, shall conclude their task on June 28, 2024.

 

In a statement, Mayor Sacrament Gumilab advised the recipients to value the money they would earn from their summer job and spend it wisely on important ones, particularly their studies.

 

SPES, to recall, is a program dedicated to underprivileged youth. Through the program, they would be given temporary employment where they could earn money, they could utilize to support their education expenses.
