Lamut, Ifugao - A 33-year-old man was arrested by the authorities on June 10, 2025, in Lamut, Ifugao, after he was caught illegally selling woodcutting equipment online.

On said day, operatives from the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group-Viscaya Response Desk caught alias “Ading” in the act of selling Chainsaw online without securing the required government permits.

The act, according to the PNP-ACG, is a crime under existing Philippine laws because the chainsaw may be used improperly, such as in illegal logging and other environmental destruction activities.

"Ading" was arrested for violating Republic Act No. 9175, otherwise known as the Chainsaw Act of 2002, which prohibits the possession, selling, and importing of chainsaws without proper authorization from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Charges against him were later filed in relation to Section 6 of RA NO. 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, since the illegal transaction was conducted through online platforms.

The suspect and the seized evidence are now in police custody for proper disposition and documentation.

PNP-ACG Acting Director PBGEN Bernard Young said that these said laws are not just for regulation but also exist to prevent environmental abuse and ensure public safety.

“We remind the public that the sale and use of regulated tools like chainsaws require proper authorization. Unauthorized online selling of such equipment violates the law and poses risks to our environment,” the police officer added, as quoted by the PNP-ACG in its report
