5-yr.old killed, 10 hurt in Asipulo, Ifugao hacking incident

Asipulo, Ifugao - A 5-year-old kid was killed while 10 others were hurt when a man wielding a bolo went amok in Amduntog, Asipulo on Wednesday, Oct. 18.

The Asipulo Public Information Office said the incident transpired at around 3:30 p.m.

The suspect, an ex-convict, was identified as Davis Bullong, 44, single, and a resident of Antipolo, Asipulo.

The suspect was said to have not only hacked in one location, but prior to entering a school in the barangay, he had already hacked some individuals in two sitios, and at the barangay hall.

The first victim, according to the police, was a certain Michael Tukal, who was then at the house of a certain Tomas Tayaban. He was hit by the suspect at first before he hacked him with a bolo.

Tayaban was also injured after he became the next target of the suspect.

Bullong proceeded to another sitio, particularly at Halulug, where he hacked three individuals named Esperanza Tadao, Jenarize Dinamling, and Melanie Tahin.

He headed to the barangay hall, and there he again injured Aldrick Hagada, Joselyn Tognaon, Viana Tognaon, and Franz Joe Tognaon.

Thereafter, he went to Asipulo Central School, where he hacked a certain Austin Espiritu, who was then about to head home. A certain Letty Monayao was the last to be hacked after police decided to shoot the suspect.

The suspect was neutralized, and he, along with the victims, was ferried to Panopdopan District Hospital and the Region 2 Trauma Center for medical attention.

However, the suspect, along with the 5-year-old kid identified as Hanz Joe Tognaon, died while being treated.

At present, two of the 10 injured have already been sent home, while eight others, who are now in stable condition, are still at the aforementioned hospitals.

Asipulo Central School, along with Asipulo National High School, was already ordered to suspend classes this Thursday, Oct. 19, for the benefit of its pupils and students who were traumatized by the incident.

"We seek your support and unity during this trying time. We also ask all of us to share our sympathies with the family of the victim who did not survive and pray for those who were severely injured by the untoward incident," says the Asipulo local government unit.
