Aguinaldo and Banaue, Ifugao athletes win 13 gold medals in National Tong-il Moo-Do 2022

Aguinaldo, Ifugao – Young athletes from the municipalities of Aguinaldo and Banaue in Ifugao province bagged 13 gold medals in the National Tong-il Moo-Do (TIMD) Championship held in Tagum City, Davao Del Norte from July 11 to 15, 2022.


Tong-il Moo-Do is a Korean self-defense style that integrates techniques from different martial arts styles. It is likewise said to be a practical means of unarmed self-defense against any kind of assault.


According to the founder, Dr. Joon Ho Seuk, the sport emphasizes courteous and humble attitudes while building a strong and courageous character that will fight against injustice and unrighteousness with determination. Thus, it is an effective instrument for teaching discipline and self-control to young people.


In the midst of the global crisis, the national championship game was launched to promote positive social, emotional, cultural, and economic outcomes.

With the theme, “Fostering Resiliency and Mental Fortitude through Martial Arts,” almost 200 Tong-il Moo-Do practitioners from the 12 participating regions in the country competed in various categories in said event.


In the tournament, athletes from Aguinaldo and Banaue who represented the Cordillera region snatched a total of 47 medals-13 gold, 13 silver, and 21 bronze.


Recognition from Aguinaldo LGU


The local government of Aguinaldo, under the leadership of Municipal Mayor Gaspar B. Chilagan, recognized the hard work and dedication of the young athletes by commending them during the municipal flag-raising ceremony on July 18.


The gesture shown by the local leaders was appreciated by the Tong-il Moo Do - Ifugao (Aguinaldo) team, thanking them for their all-out support.


The athletes disclosed that the tournament offered them “an opportunity of coming out of our comfort zones, meeting new people, building our camaraderie and practice the spirit of sportsmanship and friendship.”
