Balbalan, Kalinga – Another member of a Communist Terrorist Group was killed in a clash with the government troops on March 15 in Balbalan town, the 5th Infantry Division announced.
The armed encounter happened at Sitio Lagan, Barangay Gawa-an, just 6 days after the gunfight that killed the commanding officer of the Rehiyon Yunit Sentro of the Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Committee.
The rebel is said to be a member of the Indigenous People community in Kalinga but he happened to be deceived and recruited by the New People’s Army and joined the Rehiyon Yunit Sentro of the Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Committee.
He was found dead after the encounter with the 98th Infantry Battalion troops who were conducting pursuit operations in Gawa-an.
The gunfight also resulted in the recovery of firearms like M16 and M653. The army likewise seized 5.56 magazine, an improvised explosive device, two bandoliers, commercial radio, and cellular phones from the encounter site.
