KUCHING, Sarawak, Malaysia — Kalinga’s Laurent Briel Awingan Ballog powered his way to the top of the podium, capturing the championship for the Philippines at the 11th Siol International Mountain Bike Challenge (SIMBC) 2026 held August 21–23 at the DBKU Siol MTB Track.

Ballog led the Philippine contingent in the international mountain bike competition, which served as the final leg of the UCI Asia Continental Series. The event brought together riders competing for prize money and valuable qualification points toward the 2027 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.

The Kalinga rider’s victory added another international title to the province’s growing mountain biking record and strengthened Kalinga’s reputation as a breeding ground for elite cyclists.

Other Filipino riders also delivered strong performances. Kennedy Ilacio Fabito of Romblon finished eighth, while fellow Kalinga riders Giaanni Belgica Celestino placed 10th and Nathaniel Mendoza Dalanao Jr. finished 12th.

The Philippine team was coached by Rodney Lacanas of Mindanao.

Ballog’s victory puts another Kalinga name on the international cycling map, showcasing the province’s cycling talent against riders from across Asia.

From the Cordillera trails to the Malaysian podium, Ballog showed that Kalinga’s wheels can roll with the best.
