Apayao farmers given P53M agri aid

Apayao, Philippines – Apayao farmers through Governor Elias Bulut Jr. received another agricultural assistance to aid in their recovery efforts following the powerful typhoon ‘Egay’ that left in its wake a trail of devastation in the locality and other parts of Northern Luzon.

 

With the adverse impact of ‘Egay’, Apayao recorded P546,889,454.66 estimated losses in agriculture. Damages on standing corn crop reached P357,498,681.00; damage to high value commercial crops was placed at P122,575,737.18; rice plantation at P53,038,911.31; agriculture infrastructure at P9,295,000.00; and fisheries sector at P4,481,125.17, according to the Public Information Office.

 

At least 11,229 farmers across the province were heavily hit by the onslaught of super typhoon.

 

In October, affected individuals have been receiving financial aid such as the P2,365,000 worth of aquaculture inputs provided by the provincial government, the P20 million cash grant from the Office of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., among others.

 

On Monday, Dec. 11, the Department of Agriculture – Cordillera handed over a certificate signifying P53 million in agricultural assistance to Bulut Jr.

 

The agency said the aid is part of its Quick Response Fund to help farmers recover from their losses and reestablish their livelihoods.

 

The assistance consisted of 1,762 sets of hybrid rice seeds, 8,348 hybrid corn seeds with Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) traits, 967 rolls of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes, diverse high-value vegetables, 2,000 ducks, and 2,000 ready-to-lay chicken heads, will be distributed among identified beneficiaries.

 

Bulut conveyed appreciation for the support provided as he expressed optimism on the continued partnership of the provincial government and the agency to achieve a society with greater resilience.
