“Ada jay inkamkamakan tayo nga ipreparan ti engineering tapno ada met ti malpas tayo, like the Tanudan Municipal Hospital… tapno ti soft opening koma ket nu Kalinga Festival nu next year.”- Governor James Edduba

TABUK CITY, Kalinga — The long-awaited Tanudan Municipal Hospital could soon begin serving more residents, with Governor James S. Edduba announcing that the provincial government is working to accelerate the remaining construction and is targeting a soft opening during next year’s Kalinga Festival.

Edduba made the announcement during the Provincial Government of Kalinga’s flag-raising ceremony on Monday, August 17, at the Kalinga Sports Center in Bulanao, Tabuk City.

The governor said he, provincial engineers, and contractors inspected the hospital last week to determine the remaining works and discuss measures to speed up its completion without compromising the quality of construction.

“Ada jay inkamkamakan tayo nga ipreparan ti engineering tapno ada met ti malpas tayo, like the Tanudan Municipal Hospital. Last week napan kami am-amin kadagijay engineers and contractors, and we took time to rush it tapno ti soft opening tayo koma ket nu Kalinga Festival nu next year,” Edduba said.

He explained that the inspection was intended to identify the unfinished components of the project and determine the actions needed to move construction forward.

Edduba also directed the Provincial Engineering Office to prepare the necessary programs and plans for the remaining works.

“So, we are doing our best nu anya man maaramid nga actions. So, Engineering (Provincial Engineering Office), please prepare the programs and plans so we can get to our hospital,” he added.

First phase completed

The first phase of the Tanudan Municipal Hospital in Banagao, Poblacion has already been completed.

The new facility was designed with a 25-bed capacity, providing Tanudan residents with a larger and more capable healthcare facility.

Once fully completed and operational, the hospital is expected to reduce the need for residents to travel to Tabuk City and other areas to seek medical treatment, particularly during emergencies.

While construction of the succeeding phase continues, the facility has also started expanding its services.

In February 2026, the hospital secured its first license to operate as a birthing home, allowing it to provide delivery services to mothers.

It also became a YAKAP provider, strengthening its maternal and newborn healthcare services.

With the first phase completed and succeeding works ongoing, the provincial government is now working toward its target of holding a soft opening during next year’s Kalinga Festival.

A hospital closer to home

In an earlier interview with GURU Press Cordillera, Tanudan Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag acknowledged the past and present provincial administrations for their continued support for the construction of the new hospital.

Dagadag said the project is important to Tanudan residents because it will allow them to access medical care closer to home instead of traveling outside the municipality.

“Agpaspasalamat tayo kadagiti naglabas ken agdama nga opisyales iti probinsiya tayo ta inpapati ken ipapapati da met piman nga maikkan tayo iti nasaysayaat nga ospital tapnu iti kasta ket haanen nga kasapulan pay nga mapan dagiti kakailyan agpaagas idiay Tabuk kada daduma pay nga lugar nu adda emergency, idiay dan Tanudan nga ma-cater,” Dagadag said.

If the target is achieved, the soft opening would mark a significant step in Tanudan’s healthcare development, bringing hospital services closer to residents and reducing the burden of traveling to other municipalities and cities for urgent medical care.
