TABUK CITY, Kalinga — New equipment and improved facilities at the Kalinga Provincial Hospital (KPH) may strengthen healthcare delivery, but it is the health workers who remain at the heart of the hospital’s mission, according to Board Member Atty. Christopher D. Donaal.

Donaal emphasized the vital role of KPH’s doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers during the inauguration and blessing of the newly renovated Emergency Room, newly acquired X-ray machine, and donated Patient Transport Vehicle (PTV) and hemodialysis machine on August 18 in Bulanao, Tabuk City.

Speaking on behalf of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Donaal said the improvements should not only modernize the hospital but also give health workers better tools and working conditions as they respond to the needs of patients.

He said the upgraded facilities and additional equipment are intended to strengthen the capacity of healthcare workers to perform their duties more effectively, particularly when responding to patients who require immediate and specialized care.

“Today we are celebrating not just new facilities but the hope for our people here in Kalinga. The new X-ray machine, the donated PTV, and the hemodialysis machine are symbols of our shared commitment to life, dignity, and compassionate service,” Donaal said.

He added that the improvements are part of Governor James S. Edduba’s “LUMIN-AWA KALINGA” platform and the provincial government’s continuing efforts to improve healthcare services.

“You are the heart of this hospital”

Donaal specifically recognized the health workers who will operate the new equipment and use the improved Emergency Room in caring for patients.

He said that while modern facilities are important, their effectiveness ultimately depends on the people who use them to deliver care.

“To our health workers, congratulations. You are the heart of this hospital. May this improvement strengthen your mission and lighten your burdens,” Donaal said.

He also commended the renovation of the Emergency Room, saying he had visited the facility several times and personally witnessed the changes.

“I am very happy that the Emergency Room finally improved. I’ve been here several times, and I can see the apparent improvement is very visible. Ada met ti baro nga facilities tayo, siguro met ket haan tayon mabannog launayen ta nag-improved payen ditoy ayan ti emergency,” he added.

For Donaal, the improved Emergency Room and additional equipment should help health workers respond more efficiently while easing some of the challenges they face in serving patients.

Better tools for better patient care

The P9.8-million X-ray machine replaces an aging unit that had exceeded its expected service life and frequently experienced problems.

The donated PTV is expected to strengthen patient transport and emergency medical services, while the additional hemodialysis machine will augment KPH’s dialysis capacity for patients from Kalinga and nearby areas.

Donaal thanked Governor Edduba, Vice Governor Dave Q. Odiem, and other stakeholders whose efforts helped bring the improvements to the hospital.

“To our leaders, the governor and vice governor, to the concerned officers, thank you so much. Because of your efforts, we are seeing the improvements of our health facilities,” he said.

As KPH continues to improve its facilities and acquire additional equipment, Donaal emphasized that the ultimate beneficiaries are both the patients and the health workers who serve them.

With better tools in their hands and improved facilities around them, KPH health workers are expected to respond more effectively, work with greater efficiency, and provide patients with the compassionate care they deserve.
