Army, police recover 4 rifles, ammo and explosives from NPA hideout in Balbalan, Kalinga

Balbalan, Kalinga – Long firearms, ammunition, and explosives were discovered by the military and police from an abandoned hideout of the New People’s Army in Barangay Mabaca, Balbalan on December 9, 2022.

The camp is believed to have been occupied by the members of the Weakened Komiteng Larangang Guerilla (KLG) – Baggas. Based on the tracks left, it has been abandoned for quite some time.

The 5ID reckon that the occupants of the hideout left their camp to escape the government forces.

The said arms cache was found by the authorities after verifying information from a concerned citizen that there is an NPA hideout at Sitio Kalakatan, the 5th Infantry Division stated.

With the operation, the combined troops of the 50th Infantry Battalion and the Kalinga Police Provincial Office recovered a colt M16A1 rifle with 4 magazines, 2 Garand rifles with 5 magazine clips, a carbine rifle, and 30 pieces of ammunitions for 7.62mm, M203, and 60mm.

There were also 3 rifle grenades, 3 improvised explosive devices, and other NPA belongings found at the abandoned hideout.

Earlier last week, the military troops had a firefight with members of the Weakened KLG Ampis whom they encountered in Tulgao, Tinglayan, Kalinga.
