Baguio City, Philippines - A newborn child inside an eco-bag was recently discovered abandoned in Baguio City.

The baby, a girl, was found by around 3:00 a.m. in Purok 4, Upper Pinget, Baguio City on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, still attached to its umbilical cord.

In his interview with a local media outlet near the area, Baguio City Police Office Station 2 Commander PMAJ Jayson N. Eugenio said the person who found the baby, “ Johnny”, immediately reported the matter to the barangay officials, who later notified the police.

Initial investigation revealed that the baby was likely discovered shortly after it was left by the mother.

Johnny, according to Eugenio, wasted no time upon discovery and rushed the baby to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC).

“Nakarinig siya (the concerned resident) ng crying baby along Pinget Barangay. So lumabas siya , nakita yong bata na in a red eco bag. Nakakonek pa yong umbilical cord ng bata. Ang initial na assessment, mga 1 hour or mahigit (before the discovery)…We are very much thankful na natakbo agad sa hospital,” said Eugenio.

When the police proceeded to the said hospital, the medical staff confirmed that the infant was suffering from hypothermia due to exposure to the cold.

The police officer said their investigation is now ongoing, and they are working with the barangay to trace the identity of the mother and the person who abandoned the baby.

“Ongoing pa yong investigation natin as to whoever na mother ang nagiwan sa bata. We are coordinating with the barangay para doon sa monitoring nila kung sino yong mga nagdadalang tao doon. As to their record, kung sino yong mga nanganak na,” he added.

Meanwhile, according to a report of DZWT 540 AM - Radyo Totoo, Barangay Captain Pablo Pawi Jr. said they have begun checking the list of pregnant women and recent births in the area to help the police investigation.

As of this writing, no individual has been identified.
