Baggao student wins gold medal in International Jui Jitsu match

Baggao, Cagayan – A college student from Baggao, Cagayan bagged a gold medal in the International Jiu Jitsu Games held on January 14-15, 2023 at the Bulwagang Kanlungan ng Lahi (KanLahi), Tarlac City.

Said tournament was held alongside Tarlac City's 150th-anniversary celebration. Various teams from the country and overseas competed in the competition.

Jay-ar Taguiam Irang, who developed a passion for martial arts at the age of 16, claimed that he experienced body pain and restricted diet to maintain his body weight during his training.

This did not make him give up but rather pushed himself to train harder in order to keep up his physical fitness and be adequately ready for the match.

Aside from dominating the Gi and NO-GI category, Irang also obtained the bronze medal in the mixed martial arts (MMA) absolute division open weight.

Meantime, Irang advised youth who are interested in martial arts to not think that they are already the best when competing.

“…paghandaan natin lagi ang bawat kompetisyon. Huwag maging kampante, never underestimate your opponent at respetuhin mo sila pero huwag matakot sa kanila kasi parehas naman kayong tao. At higit sa lahat, samahan lagi ng dasal,” Irang conveyed.

Who is Jay-ar Taguiam Irang?

Irang is studying Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science at Cagayan State University-Carig campus.

He is the son of Larry Irang Sr. and Judilyn Taguiam from Baggao, Cagayan.

To date, the gold medalist is thoroughly preparing himself for his next match to be held in March this year.
