Baguio City, Philippines - The City of Pines has been named a semi-finalist in the 2025 Seoul Smart City Prize, underscoring the city’s ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainable urban development, announced by City Mayor Magalong on September 30, 2025 through his official Facebook page.

The Seoul Smart City Prize is designed to promote an innovative yet inclusive smart city model that looks after underprivileged groups in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution that is driven by information and communication technology.

Said organization seeks to celebrate innovative projects that make cities more accessible, sustainable, and efficient, with a special focus on digital inclusion and bridging the digital divide to ensure smart city benefits reach vulnerable and underprivileged groups.

On September 28, Magalong and WeGO Secretary General Jeong-kee Kim convened for a bilateral meeting aimed at strengthening future collaboration for the City of Seoul, South Korea and Baguio.

Just last year, Baguio also received an award from the same organization by winning the Gold Prize in the Human-Centricity category for its ‘Baguio’s Inclusive and Accessible Health Governance’ (BIAG) system, providing accessible health records, telemedicine and equitable health protection.

The system aims to transform the provision of healthcare to residents in the city.

With its back to back recognition, Baguio is showing that the city is not just the “Summer Capital” of the Philippines but also a model for innovation and development.
