96-yr.-old man from Mangali, Tanudan conquers Fun Run for a Cause

TABUK CITY, Kalinga - With the heart to help a kailyan in need, a 96-year-old man from Mangali, Tanudan joined fun run enthusiasts who are mostly a quarter his age and participated in the Binnadang Run For a Cause on Saturday, September 19,2026.

The Binnadang Run is a fun run activity initiated for Babbanoy Sangguniang Kabataan Chairman and Tanudan SK Federation President Jericho 'Coy Coy' Golwingon who suffered brain aneurysm on July 20, 2026. He stayed at the Intensive Care Unit in Tuguegarao City for two months where his hospital bill grew to more than P3 million.

After learning about Coy Coy's case, Lorenzo 'Lolo Dewag' Dinungma Diwag registered and laced up for the 3KM category of the fun run which was held in Bulanao, Tabuk City.

In spite of his age, Lolo Dewag remarkably showed strength and endurance in walking and running particularly for a good cause. The 96-year-old was later given the special citation 'oldest runner' during the awarding ceremony of the event.

In an interview with Lolo Dewag's grandson, Jhay Diwag, he relayed that the 96-year-old joined the fun run to show his love and care for a younger generation kailyan.

"Ni lolo mi a Dewag ket nakipaset iti run for a cause para ken sir Coycoy nga agkasapulan ito tulong. Saan laeng a nakipaset ni lolo tapnu makatulong iti cause, nu di ket tapnu ipakita ti ayat, panangipateg ken suporta na ken Sir Coycoy iti dytoy a narigat a tiempo," he said.

The younger Diwag further told GURU Press Cordillera that Lolo Dewag showed up at the event to also show that small act can make a difference to someone's life.

" Uray pay iti edad na, si-aayat latta a nakipaset ta mamati isuna nga uray bassit laeng a tulong ket mabalin a mangaramid ti dakkel a pagdudumaan," Jhay expressed.

Meanwhile, even at 96, Jhay said that Lolo Dewag still walks for miles and conquers rugged terrain back in his home in Mangali.
