LUBUAGAN, Kalinga — More than P9 million worth of suspected marijuana bricks were abandoned by unidentified individuals along a roadside in Lubuagan, Kalinga on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

The suspected contraband was discovered after personnel from the 1st and 2nd Kalinga Provincial Mobile Force Companies of the Kalinga Police Provincial Office (KPPO) and the 1503rd Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15 received information while conducting Major Internal Security Operation “PAX EATERNA” in Tinglayan.

The information reportedly indicated a plan to transport contraband toward Tabuk City, prompting the authorities to proceed to Lubuagan.

Upon reaching Sitio Balangabang, Barangay Dangoy, authorities found a total of 82 kilograms of suspected marijuana bricks believed to have been abandoned along the roadside.

The recovered items were inventoried in the presence of representatives from the Department of Justice and Barangay Dangoy and were estimated to have a street value of P9,840,000.

The confiscated suspected illegal drugs will be turned over to the Kalinga Provincial Forensic Unit for appropriate examination and disposition.

KPPO said it remains committed to strengthening intelligence-driven operations and inter-agency coordination to combat the proliferation of illegal drugs in Kalinga.

Not the first abandoned marijuana find

The latest incident was not the first time authorities recovered abandoned suspected marijuana in the area.

In January 2026, authorities recovered 217 bricks of suspected marijuana packed in sacks in Upper Bangad, Tinglayan.

The recovered items were estimated to be worth P26.04 million.

The latest recovery brings renewed attention to the continued use of routes in the province for the alleged transport of marijuana toward urban areas.
