Tanudan proposes fine for wildlife hunting during breeding season

TANUDAN, Kalinga — The Sangguniang Bayan of Tanudan is proposing penalties for violations of measures seeking to protect wildlife during their breeding season.

The proposed ordinance, authored by Councilor Alex Ladwingon, was presented during the Kapihan led by Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag on September 14, 2026, in Banagao, Poblacion.

Under the proposed measure, the municipality would prohibit the hunting, capturing, trapping, killing, collecting or disturbing of wildlife during their breeding period.

It would also prohibit the destruction, collection or disturbance of nests, eggs, hatchlings, dens, burrows, breeding sites and wildlife habitats, as well as the selling of wildlife captured during their breeding season.

The proposed ordinance would likewise prohibit the use of firearms, snares, traps, poison, explosives, air guns, slingshots and other devices for hunting wildlife during the breeding period. For violations, the proposed penalties are P1,000 for first offense; P2,000 for second; P2,500 for third; and possible prosecution under national laws through endorsement to the right agency for the fourth offense.

Ladwingon said protecting wildlife is necessary to ensure the sustainability of animal populations, maintain healthy ecosystems, and preserve Tanudan’s natural heritage for future generations.

“It is the duty of the Municipal Government of Tanudan, in partnership with barangays, concerned national government agencies, people's organizations, indigenous cultural communities, and other stakeholders, to strengthen measures for the conservation and protection of wildlife resources,” the proposed ordinance states.
