Balbalan dominates 2024 Bodong Street Dance Competition


Tabuk City, Kalinga – Balbalan town, under the leadership of Mayor Almar Malannag and Vice Mayor Rowina Allison Damian, emerged triumphant as its delegates showcased cultural prowess in this year’s Bodong Street Dance competition.

 

Held on February 13, the said tilt was a celebration of cultural diversity. The eight municipalities and the city in the province were brought together to highlight their heritage, while trying to get the highest rate.


The delegates performed twice – one for the street dance in front of Saint William’s Academy, and another at the Kalinga Sports Center.

 

The first performance, which comprises 40 percent of the overall rating, was evaluated according to the following criteria: theme/concept (10%), choreography (20%), performance (40%), costume (15%), and props (15%).

 

The showdown performance, which comprises 60 percent of the rating, was judged based on theme/concept (25%), choreography (20%), performance (25%), costume (15%), and props (15%).

 

Despite the stiff competition, Balbalan’s showcase stood out.

 

Student-performers from Balbalan Agro-Industrial High School emphasized the desire for prosperity and progress amidst adversities. They portrayed the resilience and determination of the Kalinga people to overcome hardships and strive for a brighter future while encapsulating the essence of their culture and heritage.

 

Along with their championship title, they took home a P115,000 cash prize and an additional P6,250 prize from Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang.

 

Next to Banat Balbalan was Rizal, followed by the delegates from Tabuk City, Pinukpuk, Lubuagan, Tanudan, Tinglayan, and Pasil.

 

Mayor Malannag and Vice Mayor Damian expressed pride as they extended their felicitations to the performers and the community as a whole.
