Balbalan isolation facility begins construction, to be ready in 3 months

Balbalan, Kalinga― The 10-bed capacity Municipal Isolation Facility by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Balbalan has started to be constructed in Barangay Balantoy after months of delay due to disputations regarding relocation of the site.


Said Municipal Isolation Facility is intended to serve CoViD-19 patients in the municipality.

Mayor Eric Gonayon, Sr. disclosed that they have decided to relocate the isolation facility supposedly constructed last year since some residents aired their concern stating that putting up the building near them could affect their livelihood.


“Nairelocate ta contested diyay lote nga mangipatakderan mi, nalpas kuman di December ngem gapo ta nagprotest da diyay nga dati nga lote na ta diay danum nga agapo diay uneg ti lote mapan diay taltalon,” he said.


The programme of work has been awarded to the contractor, and on the site preparation has begun. Said construction is targeted for completion in 91 days.


Earlier, Gonayon mentioned that the isolation will be having 10 rooms with one bed and a restroom each. It shall likewise have an extension room for frontliners.


Barangay Health Stations and makeshift isolation units made out of bamboo are currently serving as their Isolation Facilities with 20 bed capacity.


Additionally, the LGU has rented the building of Saint Theresita's School-Balbalan which has been currently accomodating CoViD-19 patients.
