Tabuk City, Kalinga – To help ease the burden of rising fuel prices, more than one thousand tricycle drivers in Tabuk City will receive cash assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

This was announced by Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) Team Leader Lorna C. Lumioan during the Kapehan meeting of the Provincial Government of Kalinga, led by Governor James S. Edduba, on Monday, April 6, at the Provincial Capitol New Conference Hall.

According to Lumioan, a total of 1,185 tricycle drivers in the city will receive P5,000 each from the agency through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) Program.

The SWAD team leader said the list of beneficiaries was sourced from the City Business and Tricycle Franchising Office and was validated last week.

The payout is scheduled on Wednesday, April 8, at the Tabuk City Gymnasium and will be a one-time distribution.

When asked by Governor Edduba about the qualifications of the beneficiaries, Lumioan clarified that recipients must be “registered and active” members of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA).

For tricycle drivers in the seven municipalities of the province, she shared that coordination is ongoing with concerned offices and local government units for the submission of qualified beneficiaries.

Lumioan added that the next distribution is set for April 16.

“We will also be coordinating with different social welfare and development offices, in partnership with the municipalities, to submit lists of registered and active TODA members,” she said.

For drivers of Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) and Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs), the DSWD official noted that similar assistance will be provided by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in the coming days.

In a Facebook post on March 19, the LTFRB–CAR reminded drivers and operators that applications may be submitted at their office or through email at puvmpcar.ltfrb@gmail.com.
