Cagayan, Philippines – The body of a 69-year-old man was found floating on a river along Barangay Dammang, Sanchez Mira, Cagayan on Tuesday, April 25.
The victim went fishing at the dawn of said day but did not make it home at the time he usually does, prompting his family to ask the help of the authorities in searching for him, relayed Jovitor Biado, head of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office - Sanchez Mira through Cagayan Provincial Information Office.
A concerned citizen called the attention of the agencies, saying he found an abandoned boat along Barangay Tokitok, possibly owned by the missing elderly.
Just moments after retrieving the boat, Biado was informed that a floating body was seen along Dammang village.
The family positively identified the victim as their missing member - Santiago Yague who was a resident of Barangay Nagtupacan, Pamplona.
The MDRRMO said part of the boat was cut that could have caused it to loose balance and in turn, the elderly victim fell overboard.
No foul play is suspected as the properties of Yague are complete, with the doctor confirming the cause of death.
