Capitol and KPH soon provide Free Wi-Fi to the public

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The public shall soon enjoy free internet access at the capitol grounds and the Kalinga Provincial Hospital as Provincial Governor Ferdinand Tubban this Tuesday, March 2, 2021 authorized the Department of Information and Communications Technology to implement its program, Free Wifi for All/ Free Public Internet Access.

Wi-Fi areas at the capitol grounds shall be located at the Provincial Public Library, Capitol Lobby, Tourism Grounds, back of the Enterprise Building, and PDRMMC Grounds.

According to PIO Kalinga, the selection of DICT to the areas as “beneficiary sites” is an initiative by the governor. One of Tubban’s advocacy is the strengthening of internet access in provincial properties benefiting the public especially the students, researchers, government employees, and their clients.

Said move is also in compliance with Republic Act 10929 or an "Act Establishing the Free Internet Access Program in Public Places in the Country…”

To push through with the project, the agency and the Provincial Local Government are working hand in hand on its implementation.

With this, DICT and its service providers are tasked to carry out a survey on the location, data and power cable run, installation and maintenance of the Wi-Fi Access Point and Networking Switch, power tapping for the system; provision and installation. Additionally, they will look into working on maintenance of the IP Transport connectivity for the system and its internet and designation of a focal person for coordination.

PLGU Kalinga, on the other hand, will provide 24/7 power and access to the location of the Wi-Fi access point through the PGS office while the PGO-Information Services will take charge on the provision of the iGov network for the installation and maintenance, assistance during project establishment, operations, and implementation. They will also act as site coordinator.
