Catholic devotees in Balbalan hold spiritual pilgrimage, climbing steep and slippery trails

Balbalan, Kalinga – Catholic devotees in Balbalan climbed the steep and slippery trails of the a place they called Mount Calvary for a spiritual pilgrimage, commemorating the passion and death of Jesus Christ on Good Friday.

 

The devotees joined by Mayor Almar Malannag journeyed towards the mountain on April 18 for the Holy Week Pilgrimage and Station of the Cross, down to Barangay Poblacion.

 

The Station of the Cross which is done every Good Friday aims at observing the death of Jesus Christ at the cross by allowing people to walk through a spiritual pilgrimage leading to reflection and prayer.

The success of said event which was officiated by Rev. Fr. Rocky Mae Bayaua, Parish Priest of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, was due to the collaborative efforts of the church, the authorities and the LGU, and the community.

 

Prior to the spiritual pilgrimage, the Balbalan LGU together with the BFP, PNP, AFP, and the community cleared and prepared the Mt. Calvary, installing safety ropes along critical areas to have something the people to hold onto in ascending and descending the steep trail.
