Baguio City, Philippines - With the increasing cases of dengue in the region, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council placed the whole Cordillera under heightened alert, effective on Thursday, August 1.

In its report Thursday, August 8, the Department of Health - Cordillera cited there were 9,892 cases of dengue in the region from January 1 - August 3.

Twenty-two of the total infected individuals already succumbed to the virus, thus the CDRRMC - CAR placed the region on blue alert.

Under the blue alert, monitoring, warning, bio-surveillance, and preparedness for response such as unified actions and measures against dengue, will be conducted by the assigned health authorities throughout the region.

For their part, Provincial and municipal DRRM councils are required to submit regular preparedness measures and situation reports for consolidation and reporting to the national DRRMC.

The public, meanwhile, is reminded anew by the DOH to maintain the cleanliness of their surroundings and follow anti-dengue measures.
