Dead man found in a floating container in Cagayan River identified

Solana, Cagayan – The dead man found inside a floating container along Cagayan River in Solana, Cagayan this November 17, 2021, has been identified and claimed by his older brother.

Solana Police Station reported, through Cagayan Provincial Information Office, that the victim’s older brother, Melvin S. Unabia, claimed the body of their youngest brother Rowel S. Unabia, 32, married, and a former seaman.

According to the older Ubania, the victim has had bipolar disorder since he was 19 years old and was sometimes found wandering in Cabagan, San Pablo, and Sta. Maria, Isabela.

The victim’s brother further stated that cases of stealing motorcycles in Cabagan and San Pablo were recorded against the victim.

The victim was last seen on November 16 at the Public Attorney’s Office where his brother is working. Accordingly, the victim threw temper tantrums and challenged people he bumped into.

At around 9 a.m. on November 17, Solana PNP received a phone call from a concerned Eric Baldos y Cuaresma who recovered the container where Ubania was placed into.

The medical examination revealed that the victim was shot at his back, causing his death. Wounds were also seen on his head.

The victim was brought to his family in Sta. Teresita for a proper burial.

Meanwhile, Solana PNP will continue their investigation to find the motive and the people behind Ubania’s death.
