DOST-CAR gives chance to students of far-flung schools in Kalinga through Scholarship Caravan


Tabuk City, Kalinga – To encourage more students to be part of the growing pool of undergraduate science and technology scholarship recipients in Kalinga, the Department of Science and Technology Cordillera started its caravan in the province on Tuesday, December 5.


The caravan will last until Thursday, December 7, 2023.


The promotional activity aims to promote science and technology education opportunities and further disseminate the scholarship offer in far-flung communities in the province.


In Balbalan, schools to be visited will include Kalinga National High School, Balbalan Annex, and St. Theresita’s High School Balbalan.

The caravan team shall likewise drop by at three schools in Pinukpuk: Allaguia National High School, Cawagayan National High School, and Limos National High School.


They will also be at Lubuagan National High School and Kalinga Academy in Lubuagan and Kalinga National High School in Tabuk City during the three-day activity.


Who are qualified?


According to DOST, Filipino graduating grade 12 students who belong to the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand are qualified for the scholarship.


If not a STEM student, the applicant should belong in the upper top 5% of the graduating class.


Privileges of being a DOST scholar


After passing the examination, those who qualify for the scholarship grant are entitled to a P40,000 tuition fee grant per academic year and a living monthly allowance of P7,000.

They shall likewise enjoy P10,000 for learning materials and/or connectivity allowance; P1,000 for clothing allowance; 1 economy-class round-trip fare for those studying outside their home province; premium group accident and health insurance; P10,000 thesis allowance; and P1,000 as graduation allowance per academic year.


For the mid-year term, if required in the curriculum, the student will have up to P10,000 tuition grant, a P2,000 learning materials and/or connectivity allowance, and a P7,000 monthly living allowance for 2 months.


The application is due on December 31


“To all Grade 12 students, do not hesitate to apply for the 2024 S&T Undergraduate Scholarship Program of DOST-SEI. The deadline for applications will be on December 31, 2023,” says DOST-Kalinga in their Facebook post.
