Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Department of Trade and Industry-Kalinga enhanced furniture makers’ creativity and skills through a 3-day training on wooden fittings and fixtures innovation using epoxy resin.

The event which was initiated through DTI’s One Town One Product (OTOP) Next Gen Program was held from July 31- August 02, 2023.

According to DTI–Kalinga, the training aims at upskilling furniture makers in the province for them to create more artistic and marketable scrap wood and driftwood furniture and handicrafts through epoxy resin.

Utilization of said substance is a new trend for residential and office chattels as it creates durable and waterproof seals that can be easily cleaned, sanded, and drilled.

As part of the event, Paul Henry F. Abad, a product development specialist, discussed the use of such adhesive products for river tables and handicrafts.

He further challenged the MSMEs-participants to use other kinds of materials to elevate the quality and marketability of their existing crafts.

CENRO representative Imelda B. Casiwan, meantime, conveyed the agency’s support for the participants’ livelihood while reminding them to comply with the regulations of their office.

“As a partner agency of DTI in developing and elevating the livelihood and economy of the province, we gladly support this kind of activity, however, we must also comply with the regulations of our office”, she said.

The three-day activity culminated with the presentation of six coffee tables and a variety of handicrafts made by the participants.
