Elderly who went to check piggery, found dead at Peñablanca’s Pinacanauan River

Updated: Aug 5, 2023

Peñablanca, Cagayan – An elderly person who just went out of their house to check on their pig pen Thursday, August 3, was already lifeless when found by authorities at the Pinacanauan River in Camasi, Peñablanca.

Authorities were called to the scene at 10 AM on the said date following a call from the victim’s immediate relatives.

Accordingly, he was discovered lying with his face down in the river by his wife.

When there, responders from the Peñablanca Emergency Response Team assessed the victim, and upon checking, the patient had no signs of breathing, or pulse and was already unconscious. CPR was still performed until they arrived at the Cagayan Valley Medical Center.

Gil Pablo, 61, the victim, however, was declared dead on arrival by his attending physician.

He was last seen alive on the morning of said date when he told his wife he was just going to their piggery near the river.

The wife added her husband is suffering from arthritis and is undergoing maintenance medication. Her husband’s back has been hurting for the past few days.

They are now suspecting the victim might have drowned after being attacked by his illness while visiting their piggery.

Meantime, search and retrieval operations continue to locate a certain Jun Jun Taguiam, 36, who was a victim of a drowning incident last July 25 in Barangay Minanga in the same town.

MDRRMC Peñablanca sent off 24 rescue personnel and 4 personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard this morning for said operation.

To recall, Taguiam and his son went missing on July 25 after they were swept off by the raging water while they were about to cross a river in said area.

The body of his son was already retrieved by authorities on July 26. It was discovered stuck in a tree, which might have prevented it from being swept away further by the water.
