Bokod, Benguet - One person died while fourteen others were reportedly injured after a van fell into a ravine in Bokod, Benguet.
The incident transpired in Barangay Ambuklao, Bokod on Black Saturday, March 30, 2024.
Bokod Municipal Police Station reported that the victims were returning home to Santiago City, Isabela, from a family outing in Baguio City when the tragic accident occurred.
According to reports, the van's driver, identified as Theo Vega, 48, allegedly fell asleep while traversing the road in Sitio Bangao. This caused the vehicle to plunge into the ravine, which is about 50 meters deep.
The 14 passengers and the driver sustained severe injuries due to the incident. Responding authorities rushed them to a hospital immediately.
Unfortunately, one of them was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, while the 14 others survived the incident and are now in stable conditions.
The casualty was identified as Eva Garcia Cumarat, a senior citizen and resident of Barangay Buenavista, Santiago City.
Following the incident, police remind the public anew, especially drivers, to ensure they are in good condition before traveling to avoid accidents.
