Baguio City, Phillipines - Four cadets from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) may soon face charges for alleged hazing or mistreatment of a former 4th-class cadet in the academy.

According to the Baguio PNP report obtained by the DZWT 540 AM-Radyo Totoo, the former cadet, Mauee Bumagat Maraggun, claimed that he was subjected to hazing by four cadets by forcing him to undergo extreme exercises and physical punishment to the point of near exhaustion.

Maraggun told police that the incident happened inside the PMA barracks on September 2-29, 2024.  Maraggun sustained injuries from the incident and was confined at V. Luna Medical Center in Quezon City before being transferred to the PMA hospital station.

He was discharged only on June 30, 2025, after more than half a year at the hospital.

The names of the four cadets have not been released by the authorities, and no formal complaint has been filed yet as Maraggun is still preparing the necessary documents.

The PMA has not yet released a statement regarding the incident.

Authorities are expected to conduct a full investigation once the complaint is formally filed. Once proven guilty, the four accused will be charged for violating Republic Act No. 11053, or the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018.

Guru Press Cordillera reached out to the PMA through its official Facebook page to know more about the incident, but they have no response as of this writing.

It can be recalled that in 2019, PMA cadet Darwin Dormitorio died due to hazing. The 20-year-old was found unconscious inside the academy’s barracks and later passed away from internal injuries. His death led to the resignation of top PMA officials.

In March 2024, three suspects, also PMA cadets, were found guilty of Dormitorio’s case and were sentenced to reclusion perpetua (life imprisonment) without the benefit of parole.

The court also ordered the suspects to pay over P2,000,000 in damages to the victim’s family.
