TABUK CITY, Kalinga — Governor James S. Edduba reminded 27 newly trained Philippine Navy sailors from Kalinga to carry the province’s traditional values with them wherever their military assignments may take them.

The graduates of the Philippine Navy’s Sailor Basic Course (SBC) Class 78 “Salaknib Diwa” returned to Kalinga and joined the Provincial Government’s flag-raising ceremony on October 12 at the Kalinga Sports Center in Bulanao before paying a courtesy visit to Edduba.

Edduba urged the graduates to complement the discipline they gained from military training with the values instilled in them by their families and communities.

He specifically reminded them to remain grounded in the traditional Kalinga values of Paniyaw, Ngilin and Bain, while practicing attom, or patience, in dealing with fellow military personnel and people from different backgrounds.

“Kas kadangiti inbagami kadagiti kakadwa yo in academic, uniformed personnel, importante launay ket haan yo nga lapitan uray sadino ti ayan yo diay values tayo nga taga Kalinga, diay tallo (Paniyaw, Ngilin, and Bain), ngem ada ti makiupat kanun tata, include yo kanu ti attom (patience) nga kunada. Pangaasi yo to haan yo lipatan dagita,” Edduba said.

The governor said their military service may bring them far from their hometowns, but their identity as Kalinga people should remain part of how they conduct themselves and perform their duties.

He also encouraged them to use the values they learned from their communities in dealing with colleagues and people from different cultures and backgrounds.

The 27 graduates came from Tabuk City, Tanudan, Pinukpuk, Lubuagan, Rizal, Pasil and Tinglayan.

The graduates are Arlene Oggas, Rolando A. Kub-aw Jr., Jefrey G. Banson, Jeth A. Tillao, Edden A. Wacdagan, Denver Paul B. Gaayon, Dave M. Awingan, Zenon Carl G. Rivera, Jhoe Vincent S. Naganag, Harvey C. Elarde, Vengie A. Elig, Rady Doyle B. Alicog, Alphie Roy P. Ildefonso, Bruce Dumler B. Fangi, Reyvalon B. Malaggay, Crisvon L. Gunday, Jaybsen P. Suma-il, Raymond B. Donglay, Johnmark A. Puya-ao, Princess Cielo A. Estoque, Ivan Angelo E. Taguibao, Jennifer B. Bayog, Jan Rex A. Toyyao, Brixton Nick B. Ambasing, Norvin O. Aggulin II, Heiden Riech D. Mariano and Kenjie Mulang.

The Sailor Basic Course provides recruits with foundational military and naval training, including physical conditioning, military drills, naval orientation and values formation.

Following their completion of the course, the graduates are expected to assume their next duties in the Philippine Navy, bringing with them the discipline and skills developed during their training.

For Edduba, however, their service also carries the responsibility of representing their Kalinga roots through the values they bring wherever they are assigned.
