Grade 9 student crowned Miss Calanan 2023

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A dozen years since the last search, Calanan village in Tabuk town crowned its new queen.

Racel Jane Manalad of Purok 6A bested seven other candidates to win the Miss Calanan 2023 crown and be the successor of Miss Calanan 2011 Liven Faith Lozano. She also bagged Miss Wit, Best in Talent, Best in Evening Gown, Best in Environmental Attire, and Miss Hope awards.

Meanwhile, KC Alcanzarin representing Purok 6B and Geneva Kadchao of Purok 5 were hailed as first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively.

The young beauties were crowned evening of May 01, 2023, as part of the barangay’s 73rd founding anniversary celebration.

Who is Miss Calanan 2023?

The 15-year-old beauty queen is a Grade 9 student of Kalinga National High School.

In 2019, she competed in the local search for Miss Girls Scout of the Philippines. She was then proclaimed the winner.

Inspired by her family and the community, she was encouraged to “try and understand the true meaning of beauty and brain” by joining in the barangay-wide pageant.

Anticipating challenges in her journey, she prepared herself by enhancing her skills. The international pageants she watched gave her insights which she carried to the actual search.

From the start, she believed her capabilities are sufficient to take the title. As she puts it, everyone wants to be a winner and so she remained committed as she kept the faith.

When her name was announced as the winner, she felt ‘happy and contented despite some unnecessary rumors.’

“I did a great job,” she claimed.

She dedicates her recent achievement to her parents who never failed to motivate her throughout her journey.

Manalad understands that attached to the crown is a responsibility. As a member of the youth sector herself, she advocates for youth volunteerism as she trusts her ability to inspire her fellows by being a good influence and by sharing her knowledge.

“I know that I can make a change… I strongly believe that youth volunteerism is really important in our community because it is an asset for sustainable peace and development. Through volunteering, youth are not only helping the community but also learning about themselves,” she said in an interview.

Miss Calanan 2023 would confidently join Miss Tabuk but is not qualified yet with her age. The city-wide beauty tilt requires applicants to be at least 18 years old.
