High ranking NPA officer in Cagayan arrested

Cagayan, Philippines – A high ranking and one of the most wanted members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army operating in the Province of Cagayan was arrested on December 7.


Rolando Villarosa Ibis alias ‘Ka Saro’, 49, single, was nabbed around 7:30 PM after the police and the army served his warrants of arrest, says a report by the Cagayan Provincial Information Office.


According to the report, Ibis is facing charges for kidnapping with homicide, arson, and rebellion wherein no bail was recommended for his temporary release.

Moreover, the arrested suspect is said to be among the high-ranking members of the Squad 1 of Platoon Alpha, East front Committee of Komiteng Probinsiya Cagayan.


He is also a former East Commander of the Northern Front of the Komiteng Rehiyon Cagayan Valley.


Meantime, in a related development, three firearms were recently recovered by the government troops after an encounter with the members of the Komiteng Probinsya Cagayan, Komiteng Rehiyon-Cagayan Valley in Sitio Salong, Barangay Tanglagan in Gattaran.


The exchange of fire between the two groups lasted for about five minutes before the rebels withdrew. Fortunately, no one was hurt on the side of the government troops.
