Baguio City, Philippines – An inactive high-ranking member of the Communist Terrorist Group tagged as Abra’s Most Wanted person will now be facing the case filed against him after his arrest on January 16 in Fairview, Baguio City.

Authorities in Baguio City announced the capture of Alyas Pug-as or Somo, a 37-year-old inactive rebel leader who has an arrest warrant for rebellion.

Pug-as is among the personalities included in the Periodic Status Report of the Threat Group (PSRTG) of the Philippine National Police Cordillera. He is as well a primary target of the ‘Coplan Balik-Loob’ of the PNP in the region.

The suspect was arrested through a manhunt operation launched by the operatives after validation of his identity and whereabouts.

There was no bail recommended for Pug-as’ temporary freedom.

Recruited in 2006

Seventeen years ago, Pug-as was recruited by the members of the Agustin Begnalen Command under Weakened Kilusang Larangang Guerilla (WKLG) in North Abra.

The suspect told the Baguio City Police Office that he became the Vice Team Leader of Squad Dos under Platoon Uno.

However, it was in 2013 when he decided to lie low from the armed movement as he can no longer tolerate the hardship and hunger. This also came with the realization that he was just wasting his years in the mountains.
