Tinglayan, Kalinga – Enhancing emergency response does not only cover upgrading facilities, it also includes empowering emergency frontliners in fulfilling their duty to attend to people in need and to save lives. This is what Mayor Charles Abay underscored in his statements regarding the LGU's direction in strengthening its disaster and emergency response.

Abay, in an interview, said trainings are important for responders in Tinglayan as the municipality is one of the high-risk areas of landslides in the region CAR. At the same time, some barangays are far from the center. Having trained responders at the barangay level, he said helps a lot.

“Isayangkat tayo ti periodical training ken upgrade tapno mapabileg ken mapasayaat ti serbisyo para iti kakailian. This the reason why we work in the government… tapno makaited tayo ti nasayaat nga serbisyo iti umili,” said Abay.

In a training program provided to various government workers, including drivers and utility personnel in Tinglayan, which commenced on July 16, around 40 participants were equipped with essential and updated skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.

The 3-day Emergency Rescue Training, initiated by the Tinglayan Municipal Local Government, was held at the Municipal Grounds and focused on systematic disaster and emergency preparedness efforts.

Spearheaded by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Municipal Health Office, the event which encapsulated the theme ‘Kumikilos para sa Kahandaan, Kaligtasan at Katatagan’ trained LGU first responders including the drivers and utility employees, in responding to emergencies and life-threatening scenes.

The 3-day event was composed of interactive lectures and simulations facilitated by skilled personnel of the Rural Health Unit and the Tinglayan Bureau of Fire Protection. The participants during the event learned ropemanship, packing and bandaging, unpacking, victim package and retrieval, fire suppression, bucket relay, CPR, among others.

Mayor Abay underscored the importance of preparedness of the emergency response team, citing that every second matters when life is at stake.
