Jeyrick “The Carrotman” Sigmaton of ‘Dayas’ wins Best Actor in International Film Festival Manhattan

Baguio City, Philippines – Actor Jeyrick “The Carrotman of the Philippines” Sigmaton was hailed as the Best Actor Short Film in the recently concluded International Film Festival Manhattan (IFFM) Virtual Awards Ceremony 2021.

The IFFM, which was held from October 14 to 17, 2021, offers a quality selection of world-class films that will be showcased at the historic Anthology Film Archives of Manhattan, New York, USA.

Jeyrick Sigmaton as lead role of “Dayas”

The Cordilleran film “Dayas,” directed and produced by Jennylyn De Los Santos Floresca with Director Peter Allan Mariano as co-director, is the first lead role of Sigmaton.

The directors wish to portray and feature the ‘delicate balance between the challenges of the changing times and the continuation of culture, beliefs and traditions of the people in the region through the film.’

“Dayas” is a Kankana-ey term about the process of gold extraction based on the Ore, a narrative short film highlighting the life of two Igorot miners in Itogon, Benguet. Said dialect was used in the film.

According to Director Floresca, the soundtrack is originally composed by Cordilleran musicians, ‘The Singing Mineros’ that ‘weaved the essence of the film through their music, fused with chants and cordilleran musical elements.’

In her interview with PTV Cordillera, the director shared that being part of the IFFM is ‘really overwhelming’ considering that ‘Dayas’ is her first ‘obra.’

On behalf of Jeyrick Sigmaton, Director Floresca expressed her utmost gratitude to Chairman of International Film Festival Manhattan Luis Pedron for giving her team the ‘validation and prestige.’

“Nangabak tayo kakailianzzz .. Dayas has been a nominee for Best Actor and We Won! Pangabak tayo amin daytoy! We are grateful,” the director posted on her Facebook page.

Other international recognition of ‘Dayas’

As recalled, the film was viewed at the Noble International Film Festival and Awards in India and First-Time Filmmaker Online Sessions in the United Kingdom.

“Suportahan niyo ang ating mga Cordilleran talents, ang daming magagaling na Cordilleran na nag-act dito and siyempre original ang mga kanta from ‘The Singing Mineros’ talagang kinompose natin yan, inarrange natin yan and siyempre ang ating Be Unrivaled Productions and Sine Cordillera,” Director Floresca stated.
