Tabuk City, Kalinga – The province of Kalinga Province has formally adopted the directive of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to implement a temporary four-day work arrangement in government offices to conserve energy amid the rising prices of petroleum products due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The decision was finalized during a meeting of the Management Committee (MANCOM) on Monday, March 9, at the Provincial Capitol New Conference Hall in Bulanao, Tabuk City, chaired by Governor James S. Edduba.

After three options were presented and explained by Provincial Human Resource Management Officer Grace Kidang-Flores, the body unanimously approved the “compressed” work schedule.

Under this temporary work arrangement, provincial government offices will operate four days a week instead of the usual five days, but with extended working hours.

Starting this week, PLGU employees will work from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., instead of the previous 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule.

However, frontline offices that deliver essential services are exempted from the four-day work schedule. These include the Provincial Health Office (PHO), Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), security and emergency response offices, and other units that provide critical public assistance.

Regarding the duration of the temporary arrangement, Governor Edduba said that the regular five-day work schedule will resume once the President lifts Memorandum Circular No. 114.

In his message, he emphasized that the provincial government is adopting the measure in response to the national call to reduce energy consumption while ensuring that essential government services remain accessible to the people of Kalinga.

“During lang met daytoy Memo ti President. Ditoy lang nga time nga kastoy tayo sunga maawatan ken anusan tayo koma,” the governor added.
