Kalinga PLGU recognizes 15 cooperatives for outstanding performances

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Fifteen cooperatives were recognized as outstanding cooperatives in Kalinga on Monday, November 20, at the Capitol for their noteworthy achievements in the said field which is bringing a great impact to the province.


Governor James Edduba said such recognition is vital to the cooperatives as they are considered to be the underground economy not only in the local but to the country as well.

“One is that, according to stats, our cooperatives are actually considered as an underground economy and are the one who is giving employment kadagitoy kakailyan tayo ngay, especially kadagitoy seasonal farmers and kadagitoy dadduma pay,” he shared to Station 1 Radio in one interview on Monday, sighting their important role even during the pandemic days when many were laid-out because of the restrictions.


“Just like idi pandemic di ba kaadwan kadagitoy na-displaced ket immasideg da to those cooperatives noon giving jobs uray pay nu temporary jobs nga like for example the construction, nu adda iti nagpa construct nga nag-loan iti cooperative ket dakkel nga banag diyay because they can give tu idiay neighbors ken dagitoy kailyan tayo nga awan trabaho na. And it’s the one actually the one driving our economy here in the local areas,” he elaborated.


He related that the money they are lending to small businesses gives opportunities, saying, “dakkel nga banag daytoy. The money circulating here in the local economy actually most of them are coming from the coops.”


Cooperatives given incentives and plaque of recognition

Small Category - Kalinga OFW Multipurpose Cooperative, PUR Multipurpose Cooperative, and Binongsay Malin-awa Savings and Loan Cooperative. Micro Category – Dakaran Credit Cooperative, Rang-ay Sandigan Credit Cooperative, and Guilayon Ancestral Domain Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative.


Micro to Small Category – Challenger’s Agriculture Cooperative, Marapi-Abaggoy Credit Cooperative, and Couples for Christ Kalinga Credit Cooperative. Small to Medium Category – Kalinga Farmers and OFW Credit Cooperative, Northern Luzon Diocesan Employees MPC, and St. Andrew Credit Cooperative.


Medium to Large Category – Bulanao Multipurpose Cooperative, Cabaruan Multipurpose Cooperative, and St. Joseph Multipurpose Cooperative.


Among the 15 cooperatives, 9 of them advanced to a higher category based on their capital increases, as announced by the Provincial Cooperative and Enterprise Development Office.
