TABUK CITY, Kalinga — After successive postponements, the Provincial Government of Kalinga is set to hold its Teachers’ Day celebration on October 31, 2026, to recognize the dedication and contributions of educators across the province.

Governor James S. Edduba announced the scheduled celebration during the provincial government’s regular flag-raising ceremony on October 26 at the Kalinga Sports Center in Bulanao, Tabuk City.

Edduba said the provincial government would spearhead the activity pursuant to an ordinance enacted by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

“Diay October 31 ket na-postpone nga Teacher'r Day, finally it will be conducted on 31st. This will spearheaded by the province through the ordinance that has been enacted by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan,” Edduba said.

The governor explained that the celebration was originally scheduled for September but was postponed. He asked Board Member Emilio Kitongan, chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Education, to set the new date and finalize the arrangements.

Edduba added that private school teachers would also be invited to ensure their inclusion in the province-wide recognition.

He said the Department of Education (DepEd)-Kalinga had requested that the celebration be held on a Saturday to avoid disrupting regular school activities.

“Mai-finalize lang ti date na ngem ti in-request metlang ti DepEd-Kalinga ket i-hold tayo ti Saturday tapnu haan da nga madistorbo piman, so we expect nga Saturday tu diay event,” Edduba said.

The celebration comes as the province continues to recognize teachers’ contributions to education and provide opportunities for their professional advancement.

On January 7, 2026, a total of 761 public school teachers under the Schools Division of Kalinga received promotions through the Department of Education’s Expanded Career Progression (ECP) system. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Tabuk City Gymnasium and led by DepEd-Cordillera Regional Director Estela P. Leon-Cariño, with Edduba in attendance.

The promotions provided career advancement opportunities for teachers and recognized their professional growth and contributions to public education.

Meanwhile, staffing figures published on the Schools Division of Kalinga’s official website list 760 elementary teachers, 331 public secondary teachers and 60 private secondary teachers, totaling 1,151 teachers across those categories.

The October 31 celebration is expected to bring together public and private school teachers to honor their role in educating and preparing the next generation of iKalingas.
