Lady boxer from Tanudan eyes Olympic slot after clinching gold medal in Spain

Tabuk City, Kalinga - The success of Kalinga's very own Hergie Bacyadan adds to the pride of the Philippines who displayed skills and determination to bring home gold medals in yet another prestigious tournament.

The performance of Bacyadan who hails from Taloctoc, Tanudan was nothing short of exceptional as she claimed the gold in a unanimous decision at the Boxam Elite International Tournament 2024 in La Nucia, Alicante, Spain over the weekend.

Bacyadan showcased her resilience on the international stage as she beat Yerzhan Gulsaya of Kazakhstan in the women’s 75-kilogram match.

Sharing her thoughts on her victory, Bacyadan’s statement reflects her humility as she expressed gratitude and acknowledged the hard work behind her success.

She extended her appreciation to her family, coaches, teammates, and supporters who played a crucial role in achieving this milestone.

As she looks forward to the next challenge on her Olympic journey, the yKalinga boxer remains grounded, acknowledging the areas she needs to work on.

Other than her, part of the elite group of Filipino athletes who won their respective bouts include Rogen Ladon, who secured victory via walkover against Hungarian Istvan Szaka; Nesthy Peteceio, who triumphed via a split decision against Taiwanese boxer Hsiao-Wen Hoang; and Aira Villegas, who emerged victorious via a split decision against Kazakh boxer Kyzaibay Nazym.

The four gold medalists will undergo an intensive training camp as they prepare for the upcoming Paris Olympic qualifying tournament, according to SEAG Network.
