Tinglayan, Kalinga – Safety of farmers going to and from their rice fields in Barangay Lower Bangad, Tinglayan is now assured with the provision of a sturdy bridge and now the longest footbridge in town.

Over P4 million fund was allocated for the project through the General Appropriation Act of 2021.

The 132-meter length project that would also reduce travel time and provide faster transportation for agricultural products was turned over on Friday, November 25, by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Upper Kalinga.

The turnover ceremony was led by Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang and the personnel of DPWH-Upper Kalinga.

Mayor Sacrament Gumilab received the infrastructure project from DPWH-Upper Kalinga District Engineer Theodoro Owek.

According to Larae Lactao of the Municipal Information Office, the footbridge is a major link for beneficiaries in Lower Bangad to their production area as rice fields or ‘kaingins’ are located on the other side of the Chico River

Lactao said the construction of the bridge started in July 2021 and was completed in February 2022.

Meantime, Mayor Gumilab conveyed his statement of gratitude to the implementing agency and the office of the congressman for prioritizing the project.

“Our heartfelt gratitude to our supportive partner in development, Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang, with the builders of infrastructure developments, DPWH Upper Kalinga District.

These projects are complementary to LGU Tinglayan's funded projects to make the holistic improvements of the Municipality under its comprehensive developmental framework,” Mayor Sacrament Gumilab stated.
