Tanudan, Kalinga – Appreciating what a place could offer is one thing, but going back to extend support to the community is another.

For a group of trekkers from Manila who joined the 2024 Kalinga Lumin-awa Trek in Tanudan in February, it is just right to go back and share what they have to Dacalan, one of the itineraries during the said activity, which also happened to be a Geographically Isolated Disadvantaged Area.

Kalinga Police Spokesperson, PCapt. Ruff Manganip said that these hikers teamed-up with the 1st Kalinga Provincial Mobile Force Company and other units of Kalinga Police Provincial Office for an outreach program in Dacalan during the Holy Week, particularly on March 28 – 29, 2024.

Together with the Local Government Unit of Tanudan personnel, the group of trekkers and police officers braved terrains and crossed rivers for three hours to get to the community.

The outreach benefitted the pupils of the Dacalan Elementary School who received school supplies and stuffed toys. The rest of the community members likewise received clothes, kitchen utensils, and lectures on crime prevention and public safety to arm them with knowledge on their rights and on what to do to sustain the peace and order in their area.

Participants of the event also received a free haircut from the police officers.

To keep the community entertained and engaged, some performances and parlor games were staged during the two-day event.
