Mayor of Abulog, Cagayan passes away at 58

Abulog, Cagayan - The town of Abulog, Cagayan is in mourning following the passing of its beloved mayor, Jesus Emmanuel "Manny" P. Vargas, who died this Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the age of 58.

 

According to a report from a local media, Mayor Vargas passed away while being treated at St. Luke’s Medical Center early this day. His death has left the community devastated, with many residents expressing their condolences and support to the Vargas family.

 

Among the first who extended sympathy was Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba, who offered heartfelt condolences to the grieving family.

 

Mayor Vargas was the younger brother of Cagayan 2nd District Congresswoman Baby Aline Vargas Alfonso. He is also the sibling of the late former Governor of Cagayan Melvin Vargas Sr.

 

As mentioned by the Cagayan Provincial Information Office, Manny Vargas had a history of public service, such as having held the position of Vice Mayor of Abulog from 2019 until 2022. As the current mayor, he was set to run unopposed in the upcoming May 2025 elections.

 

“Taos-pusong nakikiramay ang Pamahalaang Panlalawigan ng Cagayan sa pangunguna ni Gob. Manuel Mamba sa pamilya ni Abulug Mayor Jesus Emmanuel “Manny” P. Vargas na pumanaw ngayong Huwebes, Marso 13, 2025 sa edad na 58,” the province of Cagayan, through its Information Office, expressed.
