Tinglayan, Kalinga – The deployment of appropriate postharvest and mechanization technologies to improve the post-harvest systems of the country’s rice industry is one of the roles of the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech).

Through the implementation of the farm mechanization component of the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Program (RCEP), the distribution of various farm machinery was made, contributing to reaching such a goal.

In Tinglayan, Kalinga, two farmers’ organizations recently benefitted from the program after receiving from the local government of Tinglayan one unit each of the Axial Flow Mechanical thresher.

Said farmers’ groups are the Bangad Indigenous Farmers Association from Barangay Bangad Centro and the Magic 78 Lower Bangad Farmers Association from Barangay Lower Bangad.

Personally handing over the farm machinery were Mayor Sacrament Gumilab and Hubert Patang-i.

During the awarding, the officers of the benefiting farmers’ organizations were advised by the mayor to take good care of the machinery and utilize the equipment for its intended purpose.

The mayor underscored that this equipment promises sustainable growth, prosperity, and resilience within the Bangad Tribe, so there is a need for it to be taken care of.

The farmers’ group, as a response, committed to making sure that the awarded equipment will be well utilized for its purpose.
