Tabuk City, Kalinga – Dagupan Centro Barangay Captain George Esteras stands firm to his statements saying there shall be no selling of firecrackers in his barangay, and those planning to defy this better go to other barangays to sell.

“Nu kayat yo aglako, apan kayo idiay adayo… apan kayo sabali a barangay. Saan kayo aglako ditoy barangay mi tao konfiscaren mi dagita. Bahala met ti linteg kaniayon,” said Esteras.

Esteras, in an interview, said he is banning the selling of firecrakers in accordance to Republic Act No. 7183 or an Act Regulating the Sale Manufacture, Distribution and Use of Firecrackers and other Pyrotechnic Devices underscoring that during this time of pandemic people should opt to use their money for buying food than wasting it.

“Uray saan dak ibutos dagita nga kumontra, mas ad-ado ti mangkayat iti pagsayaatan ngem ti pagmadian. Kitam met ah apay matay tayo nu saan tayo agpaputok ti labentador wennu dagita nga pappaputok. Sayang lang kwarta ti tao dita,” said Esteras adding that he is dismayed by ssome people's actions supporting the selling of firecrackers when they know that the present situation requires people to be wise in spending.

Due to the pandemic and the effects of African Swine Fever in the City, many prices of commodities have increased along with pork.

The Barangay Captain mentioned that he is not alone in this move as Barangay Captain Cosme Gunnawa of Barangay Bulanao Centro, he said, told him he too shall prohibit the selling of firecrackers.

Earlier, the Bureau of Fire and Protection-Kalinga reported no case of selling of firecrackers yet although possibility of black market operation could be happening.

According to BFP-Kalinga no shop or individual has sought for a permit or certification to sell firecracker and other pyrotechnic devices as of last week. When one wants to sell firecrackers, they need to secure Fire Safety Inspection Certificate (FSIC).

Firecracker-related injury in the Philippines is commonplace during the Yuletide season and the New Year. The country is hoping for a zero-firecracker related injury and casualty as it welcomes the coming year.
