No survivors in Apayao Cessna 152 plane crash

Pudtol, Apayao – The two occupants of the missing Cessna plane were found dead at Sitio Matad, Brgy. Salvacion, Luna, Apayao on August 03, 2023.

The aircraft ferried Capt. Edzel John Lumbao Tabuzo and student pilot and Indian national Anshum Rajkumar Konde.

The plane with body number RP-C8598 was reported missing on August 01 after it took off from Laoag Airport but failed to land at Tuguegarao City Airport around 12:30 p.m. of the same date.

Last signal transmission from the aircraft was received 35 nautical miles North-west of Alcala, Cagayan.

After receiving a report about the sighting of a plane on August 02, the Apayao local government dispatched a rescue team to the boundary of Salvacion, Luna and San Mariano, Pudtol.

The team, however, failed to reach the area yesterday due to bad weather.

As the rescue operation continued today, authorities were alerted around 2:00 p.m. by a resident who found a part of the wings of the missing plane in Pudtol. The metal debris was confirmed by a pilot to be an Aileron or the lower part of the wing or the trailing edge of a Cessna plane.

Later today, the bodies of the pilot and the student pilot were found, according to a report by the Apayao Provincial Information Office.

Meantime, the family of one of the victims is in Pudtol, waiting for the arrival of the bodies recovered.
