Tanudan, Kalinga – Tanudan crafted and presented the best entry in the first Lumin-Awa Float Parade, a triumph credited to the entire village working together to bring the creativity and artistry of the iTanudans to life, according to Municipal Tourism Officer Aurie Mae Banson.

The municipality took home the first-ever title for the Lumin-Awa Float Parade with its moss-inspired float, which showcased notable attractions such as the Lubo Rice Terraces, Tawang Falls (a newly opened tourist destination), Pangol River, and Mount Patukan. The town’s entry also highlighted its thriving coffee industry with a giant kettle pouring coffee into a cup.

On February 14, Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag, on behalf of the people of Tanudan, received the P150,000 cash prize awarded to the municipality for winning the Float Parade.

In an interview, Tourism Officer Banson revealed that the Tanudan LGU immediately established committees and prepared the budget upon receiving the Memorandum on the Lumin-Awa Float Parade contest. She added that the construction of the float took nearly three weeks, during which LGU employees and job orders, spearheaded by Municipal Engineer Mike Tongnawa, worked overtime to complete the project.

Materials used included cement, plywood, steel bars, angle bars, liso (plain sheets), screened sand, and stones for the interior base, while moss, assorted beans, unoy heirloom rice, coffee beans, fresh flowers, and coffee leaves adorned the exterior.

“The successful completion of the float was made possible through teamwork, cooperation, and the unified efforts of all individuals involved, reflecting the LGU’s commitment to excellence and cultural pride,” Banson said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Dagadag expressed pride in Tanudan’s overall participation in the 7th Bodong Festival and the 31st Kalinga Founding Anniversary celebration. He cited the collective efforts of LGU officials, employees, job orders, and barangays in representing Tanudan across all the activities.
