Tabuk City, Kalinga - Municipal Mayor Sacrament Gumilab encourages Tinglayanos to actively participate in the celebration of the 29th Founding Anniversary and 5th Bodong Festival this year.

The locality made history last year as the largest contingent in the province to participate in the world record-breaking “Call of a Thousand Gongs and The Dance of a Thousand Pots”.

This 2024, even without the same activity, Gumilab said Tinglayanos should maintain their support for the activities of the two-week-long festival.

The local chief executive emphasized their involvement in various events during the commemoration of the founding date of Kalinga province, which was separated from Apayao in 1995, manifesting their cooperation and unity with their Kalinga brothers and sisters residing in other municipalities.

On Monday, February 5, Mayor Gumilab took the lead and joined city, municipal, and provincial officials in the opening ceremony of the 29th Kalinga Founding Anniversary and the 5th Bodong Festival held at the Provincial Capitol Park in Bulanao, Tabuk City.

During the event, he participated in the tightening of a symbolic rope, symbolizing unity among Kalinga officials and its people, and in the ceremonial toast known as ‘taug’ in the local dialect.

In the festive atmosphere, the lawyer-politician showcased his talents in playing traditional instruments—the gangsa—as he did during last year’s event, where he was the only local executive in the province to have joined the world record-breaking event while wearing a ‘ba-ag’.

As one of the highlights of the kick-off, the donning of the sash also took place, with the mayor personally putting on the ‘Mr. and Miss. Tinglayan LGU's sash to candidates representing the home of the world-renowned tattoo artist.

In a message to the candidates, the mayor extended his best wishes as they embarked on bringing pride to the municipality while also empowering themselves by gaining more confidence and a sense of accomplishment in their journey towards obtaining the crowns.

As for the candidates, Juanito Wanason and Mercedes Moguil, they encourage every Tinglayano to support them in their bid for the crown by reacting to their official portraits on the provincial local government’s Facebook page in the search for the social media king and queen.

They also invited Tinglayanos to cheer for them during the grand coronation night scheduled for February 13, 2024, at the Kalinga Sports Center.
