P6.5M aid rolled out to ASF-affected farmers in CAR

Manila, Philippines―Department of Agriculture (DA) recently released worth PhP6,565,000 fund to aid over 156 African swine fever (ASF)-affected hog raisers in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).


DA Undersecretary William Medrano, in a virtual press briefer, said they have rolled out the funds to raisers whose hogs were culled to stop the spread of ASF. Said fund released to CAR is part of the PhP1.3 billion fund distributed to various regions in the country.

To date, CAR has fully distributed the amount to 156 farmers from 1,313 numbers of culled pigs.


Moreover, the DA eleased some PhP693,930,000 to assist affected hog raisers in Regions 1 (Ilocos), 2 (Cagayan Valley), 3 (Central Luzon), 4-A(Calabarzon), 5 (Bicol), 11 (Davao), and 12 (Soccksargen) as of January 22.


Another PhP647,839,541 was released for Regions 1, 3, 4-A, and 11, while the National Capital Region received PHP37,035.000.


Meantime, DA has launched the Bantay ASF sa Barangay or Babay ASF to intensify efforts against ASF, adopting a number of measures to ensure a more successful anti-ASF program.


“Ito po yung pinaigting nating ASF control and prevention program, ito yung plataporma na natin at ang layunin po natin dito is mapaigting natin yung tulong galing sa lahat ng LGUs sa provincial tsaka municipal level,” Medrano said.

“Itong bantay ASF program natin ay aakuhin ng ating LGUs para sila ang tawag natin sa kanila, first responder, kasi ang labanan po dito, dito sa ASF na ito ay nasa baba, nasa ground level nasa mga barangay,” he added.


Guidelines for the said program are being prepared while the funding is being sourced from before its implementation.
